Cornish VW Weekend – Bude and North Cornwall for 3 nights.

If you have booked one of our fabulous vans its always good to have a plan (or at least a vague one!).

One of the routes we love is:

Day 1 – Friday

Pick up from Freebird Campers from 3pm – Journey time to Bude on the north coast is approx. 2 hours. There are many campsites in this area, for instance a great way of finding one to suit you is to use Pitchup.com or  Campsites.co.uk. We always recommend that you book ahead or have a couple of options in mind.

Day 2 – Saturday

Explore Bude it has fantastic shops, eateries, beach and sea pool, alternatively you can wander or hire a boat and make your way down the peaceful canal away from the town. Travel  20 miles down the coast to Tintagel, or a little further to Padstow (approx. 1 hour from Bude). Padstow has much to offer in the town and above all Rick Steins Fish and Chips are a must. One campsite that has been recommended to us is Dennis Cove Campsite right on the estuary close to the town.

Day 3 – Sunday

Padstow is at the start of the famous Camel Trail. So if you are keen cyclists or walkers this trail had some amazing views as you follow it towards the town of Wadebridge. It falls into three main sections: Padstow to Wadebridge – 5.5 Miles, Wadebridge to Bodmin (Boscarne) – 5.75 Miles and  Bodmin to Wenfordbridge – 6.25 Miles.

You could stay overnight in the Padstow area or………

Some of our hirers like to travel back closer to our base in Colyford the night before, so that the journey is shorter in the morning for the handover.  Giving you time for a more leisurely breakfast. Beer Head Campsite is only 4 miles from Freebirds Base land looks over the sea giving spectacular views. We recommend booking this one ahead as they are limited on pitches. Other great sites can be found on Pitchup.

Day 4  – Monday

Take your last glimpses of stunning scenery and head back to Freebird Campers base in Colyford. If coming from Padstow you’ll need to allow at least 2.5 hours in normal traffic to get back for the handover at 11am. We then have to get busy and do our bit again to prepare for the next renters holiday at 3pm.

If you have any recommendations for a Cornish VW Weekend route or places to visit or stay we love to hear about it.
