Places to visit in Devon. For those that don’t feel the need to travel far, Devon has much to offer. It has many places to visit within easy reach from our base near Seaton. We are lucky to be located on the Jurassic Coastline on the border Devon and Dorset. Discover the beautiful fishing villages of Budleigh Salterton, Beer and Branscombe, as well as the stunning regency town of Sidmouth. But with the sandy beaches of North Devon not being far away and the rugged countryside of Dartmoor, Devon really can offer something for all. Check availability and book
Explore Devon’s South Coast
The famous Jurassic Coastline begins in Exmouth, East Devon and continues for 95 miles to Old Harry Rocks near Swanage in Dorset. It is England’s only natural world heritage site. On the way along the coast, you can visit Beer , Branscombe and Sidmouth all favourites with our hirers.
Visit the unique Burgh Island near Bigbury-on-Sea, famous for its Art Deco hotel and stunning beach. In addition it has a unique sea tractor that you can ride on when the tide is in. Stop at the island’s ancient Pilchard Inn dating from around 1336 and enjoy a beverage and bite to eat before climbing to the top of the island above all for the breath-taking views from beside the ruins of the old church.
Dartmouth is a popular Freebird Campers destination on the banks of the picturesque River Dart, great for shopping, food and drink. Dartmouth is perhaps most famous for its significant naval history. There are plenty of historical sites to explore from Dartmouth Castle, a 14th-century fortress with magnificent estuary views, to Bayard’s Cove Fort, a 16th-century artillery blockhouse. From Dartmouth you can catch the foot ferry across the River Dart to Kingswear, which is the home of the Dartmouth Steam Railway. In addition the railway offers a range of trips along the River Dart, from Kingswear to Paignton.
Don’t forget to visit Salcombe, too – an iconic estuary town in the South Devon Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. A hub for amazing local produce and unique pubs, with an abundance of activities and beautiful beaches, such as East Portlemouth, certainly makes Salcombe a great place to visit.
Discover Devon’s North CoastÂ
Make your first stop Clovelly – a picture-postcard village most famous for its steep, cobbled main street. From boat trips along the coast to spectacular cliff-top views, there is plenty to see and do in Clovelly. However be aware though you have to pay a fee to visit Clovelly.
Head to Woolacombe Beach and enjoy its three-mile stretch of golden sand. The sheer length of beach means you can find quieter places in the surf even in peak summer. Easy access and three large car parks mean it’s a great place to visit. Kicking back and watching the sun go down as you chill in your VW camper is a definite highlight!
The Tarka Trail cycle route has been laid out along reclaimed railway track and is therefore ideal for cycling. It connects Barnstaple, Bideford, Meeth and Great Torrington along the Torridge and Taw valleys.
Another of our Freebird Campers family favourites is The Big Sheep – an all-weather fun attraction with rides, animal barns, play areas, and more. Fantastic rides, animal barns, shows, amazing play areas inside and out. Adult items include Brewery and Gin distillery! Subsequently there really is something for everyone.
