There are many places to visit in Dorset therefore within easy reach of Freebird Campers base in East Devon. As you leave us and head East along the Jurassic coast line you will find yourself in Lyme Regis within less that 15 minutes, continuing along the undulating coast line you will pass through many beautiful villages. Firstly famous for its fossil rich beaches, coastal walks and cycle trials. It has myths and legends such as the Cerna Abbas Giant, Sherborne Castle with Capability Brown gardens. However for vehicle lovers there is the worlds best collection of Tanks at the Bovington Tank Museum.
Durdle Door
One of Dorset’s most iconic landmarks. Durdle Door is part of the Jurassic Coast World Heritage Site. The majestic 200ft high arch is privately owned by family known as Welds who own the Lulworth Estate, including Lulworth Castle, consisting of 12000 acres of land in Dorset. However it is open to the public all year round.
Abbotsbury
Home of the Abbotsbury Swannery, on the beautiful coast road. The only place in the world where you can wander boardwalks through the heart of a colony of nesting Mute Swans. In addition you can also visit the subtropical gardens. Two great places to visit on your VW campervan Journey through Dorset.
Corfe Castle
Explore the dramatic ruins of Corfe Castle and its colourful history, it stands on a natural hill guarding the principal route through the Purbeck Hills.
Broadchurch
Are you a fan of the hit ITV crime drama, Broadchurch? You can explore the Broadchurch trail. In and around West Bay, Bridport and Lyme Regis.
Chesil Beach
A pebble beach 18 miles long and stretches north-west from Portland to West Bay. For much of its length Chesil Beach is separated from the mainland by an area of saline water called the Fleet Lagoon.
Portland bill and light house
Take a drive up to Portland Bill to look at this landmark. Above all take in the view on the way back of the expanse of Chesil Beach ahead of you. It’s worth parking up in the campervan as you take in the breath taking views. Therefore a good time to put the kettle on!
